Weston Park Cancer Charity swings back into fundraising with golf day

With many summer events cancelled or postponed because of the coronavirus, Weston Park Cancer Charity is delighted to be returning to fundraising with the Weston Park Cancer Charity Golf Day at Hallamshire Golf Club on Friday 2nd October 2020.

2020 was set to be an eventful year for the Sheffield-based cancer charity, with a special programme of events to celebrate Weston Park Hospital’s 50th birthday. The golf day, sponsored by Special Steel Group, originally due to take place in July, is just one of the events the charity has had to delay or postpone.

“Sadly we have had to delay or cancel many celebratory events, due to the pandemic, which has a direct effect on our fundraising. We are now preparing for a 40-50% reduction in our income this year and sadly, many of our plans to grow and expand are under review” comments Weston Park Cancer Charity’s CEO, Samantha Dixon.

Speaking of the golf day, Samantha adds; “We’re extremely grateful to all the players and teams for their patience and continued support despite the challenging circumstances. We’re working hard with Hallamshire Golf Course to follow government guidelines, keep players and staff safe, whilst ensuring everyone has an enjoyable time and the opportunity to get back into the swing of the ‘new normal’.”

Ahead of the event, the charity is auctioning a number of prizes online at https://www.bidonit.net/auctions/auc509wpcc/index.php – from luxury holidays to memorabilia and four balls, every prize will help raise vital funds for people affected by cancer.

James Glover from Hallamshire Golf Club “Over the last twenty years, the golf day has raised over £400,000 to support local cancer patients, so we’re delighted to welcome Weston Park Cancer Charity back to Hallamshire Golf Club and celebrate 50 years of cancer care – something which we thought might not be possible this year!”

Monies raised from the golf day will enable Weston Park Cancer Charity to be there, together at every step, for people facing cancer.

Their helpline is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm and is providing a ‘real life difference’ through:

  • Vital emotional support, including one-to-one mindfulness support, psychological therapy and bereavement support
  • Regular phone support to people who are self-isolating for a prolonged period through the We Care social group
  • Access to healthcare professionals for anyone who is directly affected by cancer
  • Appointments with Welfare Benefits Advisors for those with financial worries

In addition, the charity is also offering hardship grants of up to £300 for those identified as most in need, as well as practical support including grocery shopping and picking up essential supplies.
