Simon Moore and Tony Downing Visit Weston Park Cancer Charity

We are extremely proud and fortunate to have so many local authority figures and sporting personalities support the work we do. They help us spread the word, so we can continue to create a better life for patients and their families living with, and beyond, cancer.

Some of our amazing patients, staff and volunteers were in for a special treat when Deputy Lord Mayor Tony Downing and Sheffield United Football Club’s Simon Moore stopped by to experience first-hand just some of the services we provide, and write a special festive message (which you can read in our Christmas Star Appeal message book, located in the Charity reception) in celebration of Weston Park Hospital and Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Tony wrote a heartfelt thank you to Weston Park Caner Support Centre for helping to create a better life for his grandson, who was successfully treated on the Teenage Cancer Unit at Weston Park Cancer Centre.

Simon reiterated those sentiments, expressing the “pride” he feels since being appointed as a Weston Park Cancer Charity Ambassador: “It’s a pleasure to be part of such a fantastic charity. The staff and everyone associated with Weston Park are a credit to themselves and the community.”

It was a delight and a privilege to welcome Tony and Simon into Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre and give them an insight into our mission and the work we do. Simon also sat in on our Look Good Feel Better Men’s ‘Skin Fitness’ Workshop, where he observed a one hour ‘Men’s MOT’, which included hair, beard, skin and sun care advice, as well as shaving advice from Savills Barbers.

After the shock of being diagnosed with cancer, many people can be devastated by the challenging side-effects of their treatment, some of which can dramatically change their appearance and body image; such as skin changes, loss of hair, eyebrows and eyelashes, which can all be particularly difficult to cope with.

Look Good Feel Better helps in a very practical and positive way. Trained beauty consultants volunteer their time and expertise to help with simple advice. The workshops are informative, but most of all fun. A free maintenance kit is also provided for use during the session and to keep.

We’d like to say a big thank you to Tony and Simon for supporting us in our fight against cancer, and for helping to raise awareness of Weston Park Cancer Charity.
