Amidst all this change, our promise remains the same – we are here for you

Amidst all this change, our promise remains the same – we are here for you

One of the biggest buzzwords right now is ‘change’. It’s difficult, scary and can increase uncertainty and anxiety. We all have so many questions – it’s hard to know what to do when things keep changing. Coronavirus has impacted all our lives, but if you’re facing cancer it’s even harder. At Weston Park Cancer Charity we are doing all we can to help people cope with these extremely challenging circumstances.

Like many charities, our fundraising has been significantly impacted and undergone some big changes. We’ve seen fundraising take on new and exciting forms with quirky, DIY ideas including month-long sports challenges, digital conferences, online gigs, flower challenges and even a virtual balloon race!

Thanks to the continued generosity from people like you, we’ve been able to respond quickly and adapt many of our services. For example, you can now try mindfulness which is being delivered remotely or you could even join a digital Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) session.

“I am so grateful… It was both really enjoyable and informative” one of our clients said of the LGFB makeup and skincare workshop. “[The host] was lovely and inspirational. The makeup made me feel so much better.”

This would usually be a busy time for us with large-scale events and our incredibly passionate volunteers help make these such a success. It’s a real shame not being able to work with them at the moment. Many of our volunteers support us because they have faced cancer in some way and so this can be an especially difficult time.

Our volunteers mean so much to us, we want to ensure we’re here for them through all this, so I’ve been staying in touch with them through newsletters and regular calls. It’s been a joy getting to know them on a more personal level and have conversations that there may not be time for in the hustle and bustle of usual work environments.

A constant in all this, one thing that definitely hasn’t changed, is that we are here for you. Though our office may be closed, Weston Park Cancer Charity is still open and available to help you through this time, together at every step.

If you, or someone you know, has been affected by cancer and needs support then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can call 0114 553 3330 and select option one to speak to one of our healthcare professionals.
