BPL centres in Bassetlaw have raised over £5,000

BPL centres in Bassetlaw have raised over £5,00 for Weston Park Cancer Charity over the past year.

Retford, Worksop and Bircotes Leisure Centres and Kilton Forest have raised the money through a variety of fundraising days, including a Christmas Jumper Day, a 10 Year Anniversary Celebration and Tea Parties.

Barnsley Premier Leisure has been in partnership with Weston Park Charity since 2016. Over the last year, BPL’s Bassetlaw sites have managed to raise £5,689.11.

Weston Park Cancer Charity provide care for thousands of patients across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The organisation raises approximately £2 million every year to improve the lives of people, living with cancer.

Nicky Boswell, Customer Service Advisor for BPL’s Bassetlaw sites, has enjoyed raising money for Weston Park over the last year.

She said: “It has been an absolute pleasure raising money for Weston Park Cancer Charity. The biggest day was at Retford leisure centre- we had bouncy castles, we turned the pool purple, held bake sales. There was also stalls and entertainment all day long.

“We had a charity day at Kilton golf course selling refreshments at the half way house to raise funds with a raffle. At Worksop Leisure Centre, we had a charity day with the triathlon club with local entertainers and raffles.

“At Bircotes Leisure Centre we’ve held bake sales and Christmas jumper days. I have big plans for 2019, we can’t wait to see what comes!”

Darren Hayes, Business Development Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity, was invited to Retford Leisure Centre last month for a cheque presentation.

Darren said: “We are extremely proud of our partnership with Barnsley Premier Leisure which continues to go from strength to strength each year. This latest fundraising achievement is testament to their dedication to create a better life for cancer patients across the region and we would like to thank everyone involved.”
