If there’s anything else you need – just call. If we can’t help we can direct you to others who can. The most important thing is that you don’t try to get through alone when you need help – it’s just a call away.
This is a significant change to how we provide our services so we have tried to answer some of the questions you may have:
Can I just drop-in to Weston Park Cancer Support on Northumberland Road?
We know from your feedback over the years, how highly valued and helpful our ‘drop-in’ service is but sadly due to ongoing Government restrictions, we are not currently able to open up the centre for people to just drop in.
We are reviewing this regularly and our aim is to resume our drop- in service as soon as we practically can. In the meantime, our priority services are still being provided over the phone or digitally, 5 days per week.
However, if one of our healthcare team feels your enquiry cannot be dealt with over the telephone, we now have a limited number off bookable face-to-face appointments on a Monday or Thursday to speak to one of our healthcare professionals or benefits advisors. We are also able to offer a limited number of face-to-face mindfulness or hypnotherapy therapy sessions. Please call the helpline to discuss booking any of these services.

I am feeling anxious, what should I do?
We understand that this last year has been a very worrying time for anyone affected by cancer and our healthcare professionals are always at the end of the phone for a friendly chat. Please be assured, whether you are well known to our support team and have been using our services previously, or you are completely new to us, whatever your concerns, we are here for you whenever you need us. Our help is free, confidential and open to anyone whether you are a patient, carer, relative, colleague or friend.
What is your ‘We Care’ service and who is it for?
Our ‘We Care’ service provides regular phone support to anyone affected by cancer who may be feeling lonely, isolated or anxious and may benefit from having a member of our healthcare team telephone them at a pre- arranged time. This can be on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, depending on the level of support needed.
A cancer diagnosis and/or treatment can often significantly affect a person’s wellbeing and just knowing that someone will be ringing to check in on you from time to time can really help.
I am worried about transport to and from appointments, can you help with this?
Weston Park Cancer Charity currently provide a free, daily transport service between Derby University, St Helena Campus in Chesterfield and Sheffield Hospitals – Hallamshire Hospital and Weston Park Hospital. Please call Matt Hadley on 0114 5533330 Option 2 to book onto this.
In addition, the charity ‘Firefly’ run a free transport service from Doncaster to Weston Park hospital and can be contacted at: www.firefly-support.co.uk
I don’t have cancer myself but I am worried about a family member or neighbour who is affected by cancer. Can I give them your details?
Yes. Our Helpline is open Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm and is staffed by cancer specialist healthcare professionals who are here to help. You can call us yourself to discuss your concerns and we can support you to help your family member or neighbour access our specialist team, or alternatively, you can give them our helpline details for them to call us directly.
