Fond farewell as Sam departs
We’re bidding a fond farewell to our CEO, Sam Dixon, who will be leaving her role with us in May after more than seven years with Weston Park Cancer Charity.
During her time with us, Sam and the Weston Park team have supported thousands of cancer patients, families and carers across the South Yorkshire, north Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire regions – including 13,000 in 2020 alone.
Sam also played significant roles in two successful charity mergers, which in turn have helped to create a stronger Weston Park Cancer Charity – one which Sam proudly said “can support more patients in different ways”.
Life-saving infrastructure and research funding was secured during Sam’s time at the helm – with investments made into two ward refurbishments and four new specialist radiotherapy suites at Weston Park Cancer Centre, and into the capabilities of early phase trials.
On her time at Weston Park Cancer Charity, Sam said:
“The seven-and-a-half years I have spent with Weston Park Charity have been great – enjoyable, transformational and certainly memorable.
“The team here has been, and continues to be, fantastic – I have been constantly amazed and proud of the things we have achieved and will no doubt continue to achieve in the future.
“Though I am excited for what’s next for me personally, I am pleased to have built a strong team who will do a great job at managing and leading in the interim, until such a time as my successor is appointed.
“The resilience and adaptability which the team has shown during the last 12 months will help the charity as it works to support so many more patients in different ways. The future is extremely bright for Weston Park Cancer Charity.”
David Whitney, Chairman of the Weston Park Cancer Charity Board of Trustees, said:
“We are fortunate to have had the benefit of Sam’s immense contribution over the past seven years and she will leave the charity in excellent shape and well positioned to take forward and deliver the exciting five-year strategy which she has overseen.
“Sam has ensured that we have in place a high performing and committed Senior Leadership Team and staff and there is every reason to be confident and optimistic about the future.
“At the same time, we will all be very sad to see Sam depart as indeed will all the volunteers, partners and patients who have benefitted from her sensitive and compassionate leadership style.
“The Trustee Board and myself will want to ensure that the excellent legacy left by Sam’s leadership is now consolidated and built upon by her successor.”
