Food delivery service is a lifeline for people affected by cancer

As the coronavirus pandemic evolves, Weston Park Cancer Charity continues to adapt its services, including the launch of a brand new food delivery service, so that it can continue to be there, at every step, for people living with cancer.

Weston Park Cancer Charity’s director of services and grant-giving, Emma Clarke comments; “We’re really pleased to be able to launch a food delivery service to support people affected by cancer. It’s a hugely challenging time for anyone living with cancer, so it’s just one of the ways we’re here, together at every step.”

Peter, aged 72 who is shielding, has commended the services; “it’s been like having a life-line, having support. Not just shopping but seeing and speaking to someone each week really helps.” He receives weekly visits from staff at Weston Park Cancer Charity who deliver weekly food shops along with additional extras like bunting for VE day to help brighten people’s day.

“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Peter through our weekly visits – it’s just one of the ways we actively care in every sense for patients and families affected by cancer” adds Emma.

Weston Park Cancer Charity’s helpline is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm and is providing a ‘real life difference’ through:

  • Vital emotional support, including one-to-one mindfulness support, psychological therapy and bereavement support
  • Regular phone support to people who are self-isolating for a prolonged period through the We Care social group
  • Access to healthcare professionals for anyone who is directly affected by cancer
  • Appointments with Welfare Benefits Advisors for those with financial worries

In addition, the charity is also offering hardship grants of up to £300 for those identified as most in need, as well as practical support including grocery shopping and picking up essential supplies.
