Blades fans get match fit with free health checks

Are you tired of being unfit? Have you made a new year’s resolution to exercise more, drink less alcohol or quit smoking? Sheffield United Football Club might just have the inspiration fans need to achieve their goals in 2018!

Working in partnership with Weston Park Cancer Charity, Sheffield United Community Foundation is offering Blades fans the opportunity to be match fit with a free health MOT available to all supporters.

Fans are being urged to take advantage of the health checks, which will be offered on match days at Bramall Lane, in a bid to increase cancer awareness and improve wellbeing of fans.

The fifteen minute health checks, delivered by Sheffield Hallam University’s sport and exercise scientists, are designed to look at current health, lifestyle and fitness and will include advice on changes which can be made to improve someone’s wellness profile. Fans will have the choice of up to two tests including body composition, blood pressure, cholesterol or lung function.

The new initiative is championed by Sheffield United Community Foundation which aims, with the help of the Blades brand, to reach communities through education, sport, health and wellbeing.

Speaking of the pilot programme, former Blades midfielder Mark Todd, Head of Foundation commented; “We’re extremely proud to be making a difference through the Community Foundation and remain committed to improving the well-being of fans. By 2020, one in two people will be affected by cancer – that’s over 16,000 people on match day at Bramall Lane. The health of our fans and their families is important to us and thanks to Weston Park Cancer Charity’s generous support; we hope to increase awareness of cancer, speed of diagnosis and treatment. Together, we are united in the fight against cancer.”
