Dr Patricia Fisher, trustee at Weston Park Cancer Charity and Clinical Director for the Cancer Alliance comments; “It is vital that people access help when it is needed. For cancer, this is particularly important; the sooner we can find cancer, the better treatment we have and the sooner we can give you the treatment you need. We’ve made a lot of changes in the way that we work, which are aimed at keeping patients as safe as possible during this time.”

Joanne, aged 52 from Mosborough recently attended post-radiotherapy appointment at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield. Speaking of her visit she comments; “On my visit I attended the 4th floor, then onto X-ray and then onto Pharmacy. I think I saw around ten patients as I was walking around. Without as many patients around, this all seemed very strange. Everything was well organised regarding the set-up. Staff were questioning people on their arrival and making sure you washed your hands as soon as you walked in. Also the areas that are all set up for social distancing are in place in every department with plenty of hand gel around. I wore my face mask as did every member of staff. I felt very safe with all these measures in place.”

Joanne continues; “Even with covid-19 this should not stop you seeking help – please don’t think you can’t get advice if you have any signs or symptoms. GPs and Weston Park Cancer Centre are here for you . Cancer is still going on and early detection saves lives – Weston Park is a real credit to Sheffield and I would like to thank the staff for everything they have done for me.”
