Hospital staff put their best foot forward

Staff from Weston Park Hospital will put their best foot forward to give cancer patients the best possible patient experience.

Oncologists, Jon Wadsley, and Lucy Walkington and ward manager Amanda Traynor are raising funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity by running the Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday 14th April 2019.

With every step, they hope to raise vital funds to support the refurbishment of four specialist suites at Weston Park Cancer Centre. Every donation will help fund enhancements including improved entertainment facilities, soft furnishings and lighting.

Jon Wadsley commented: “Patients with thyroid cancer and neuroendocrine tumours requiring radioisotope therapy have to be nursed in isolation following their treatment. This can be very traumatic for patients at a time when they are often struggling to come to terms with their diagnosis.

The hospital has recently agreed to significantly upgrade the facilities for these patients. Working with Weston Park Cancer Charity we want to raise funds to ensure these patients have the best possible experience, for example by ensuring that the rooms are comfortably furnished and that patients have robust wifi access to allow communication with the outside world during treatment.”

To support their fundraising visit

At its core, Weston Park Cancer Charity exists to create a better life for those living with and beyond cancer. Through charitable support it is committed to fund things the NHS alone cannot provide and raises over £2million every year to fund; practical help to those in need, emotional support to those in despair and enhanced care for those who need it most.
