Kicking off the Festive Season
Christmas came early for patients and their families at Weston Park Cancer Centre when the Sheffield Wednesday team arrived for a surprise visit.
Armed with lots of presents and plenty of #BlueandWhiteChristmas cheer,
The Owls spent time chatting with patients and staff, as well as some excited family members, posing for pictures and handing out goody bags and Christmas gifts.
“It was great to take some time out of training this week to visit this hospital and to meet the remarkable patients and the incredible staff who work here.” Said Striker, Steven Fletcher.
“It’s important, not least at this time of year, to try and do something that hopefully will put a few smiles on faces and the reception we received was just incredible.
“It brings everything into perspective a little bit and reminds us that no matter what team we play for, everyone is together in the fight against cancer.”
Darren Hayes, Business Development Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity said:
“The Christmas visits are part of our long-standing relationship with Sheffield Wednesday and they’ve become an important tradition for patients, staff and families alike.
“The players really do spread Christmas joy throughout the hospital and it’s wonderful to see fans meeting their heroes.
“We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the team for generously spreading Christmas cheer to those who need it most.”
The Christmas visit was part of the Owl’s ongoing commitment to support cancer patients across the region which, last year, saw the club arrange bucket collections, offer match day experiences for patients and provide sporting memorabilia for auction, as well as generously supporting our Christmas Star Appeal.
