Purple Rein

On Friday 31 May, the glamorous Weston Park Cancer Charity Race Evening will return to Doncaster Racecourse and fashionable racegoers are being encouraged to turn the concourse purple by wearing their finest ultra violet ensembles.

A key focus on the day will be the Best Dressed in Purple Competition, which gives racegoers an opportunity to win some luxurious prizes, including a £100 voucher, courtesy of the Bawtry Retail Association.

If you fancy being in with a chance to win the coveted best dressed crown, here’s how to pull off the cosmic colour like a pro, with a little help from local boutiques.

Purple may seem intimidating to those who tend to steer clear of colour, but when treated with confidence it can be surprisingly chic. Best of all, it’s a hue that will transition easily from winter to spring, making it the ideal investment for the British climate.

Understandably, a lot of us are rather dubious of how to pull it off, fearing we’ll end up looking like Barney the Dinosaur. Therefore, what we need is a large helping of style inspiration – and luckily over the years everyone from Princess Diana to Prince has favoured the vibrant colour.

Furthermore, the shade has even been royally approved by Her Majesty The Queen. So, what are you waiting for?

It’s no secret that statement suits are a massive hit, therefore, if you’re looking for a stylish way to slide purple into your race day wardrobe, take note from Alexander McQueen by pulling off a purple and paisley-patterned shirt.

There are subtler options to choose from, which are sure to suit any style, from chic lilac blazers to lavender suits and indigo two pieces.

If you just want to give the trend a little nod, why not invest in one powerful purple accessory, or if purple really isn’t your colour when it comes to clothing, you can add a splash of it with a statement lipstick.

If you are looking for something special, head to one of Bawtry and Doncaster’s finest independent fashion boutiques, including Yasmine of BawtryChique, Da Vinci Boutique, Robinsons of Bawtry and Bawtry Eye Academy, where you’ll find handpicked collections and friendly advice.

We hope you will join us in the spirit of the Weston Park Cancer Charity Race Evening and help us make the day a real spectacle for all involved.

With the Weston Park Cancer Charity Race Evening right around the corner, it’s time to don your finest ultra violet ensembles and head to Doncaster Racecourse for an evening of racing action and entertainment – and we have two pairs of County Stand tickets (valued at £60 per ticket) to giveaway.
