Teaming up to support Rotherham transport service

Our supporters are the bedrock of our work here at Weston Park Cancer Charity. By supporting us, they make it possible for us to be there, together at every step, for the one in two people facing cancer.

Businesses team up to provide treatment access for Rotherham cancer patients

That support includes providing vital transport from Rotherham, Chesterfield and Barnsley respectively to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals – for anybody who needs cancer treatment. Our transport is free, safe, and available for anyone who needs it twice a day, Monday to Friday.

Our newest service, from Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, and has been made possible by a wonderful group of businesses – and we want to celebrate the impact their support helps us make, and will continue to help us make.

Charity patron, Darren Baker, together with his business JB Doors, was instrumental in the launch of our Rotherham service. Darren and a number of close friends in the Rotherham business community teamed up to fund the purchase of our Rotherham bus – a state-of-the-art Ford Transit minibus in perfect condition.

JB Doors were joined by Jenkinson & Co, Green Piling Ltd, Complete Shutter Services Ltd, MIS Group and Ron Hull Group to generously cover the cost of purchasing the minibus which we use for our Rotherham transport service.

Not only is our transport free and convenient, it’s also very comfortable and adds an often overlooked social element to travel for treatment which can at times be daunting.

"I’m just delighted to have been able to help in this way"

“The way in which a group of local businesses have teamed up to support people going through cancer in Rotherham is fantastic – it says a lot about the spirit and ethos of the people and the business community in our town.

“My connection to Weston Park is personal, meaning it will always have a special place in my heart. I’m just delighted to have been able to help in this way.

“Huge thank you to everybody who has come forward and joined us in supporting the Rotherham transport service.”

Marc Mardlin, Managing Director of MIS Group, said: “Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Rotherham transport will become a vital link between people in our local area and treatment which could save their life.

“Supporting local good causes like Weston Park Cancer Charity is essential."

Nicola Quealey, Director of Complete Shutter Services Ltd, said: “This is a service which will support people all over Rotherham and the surrounding areas and help them get to where they need to be for treatment which could change, or possibly save, their life.”
