Volunteering Opportunities
We have various volunteering opportunities at Weston Park Cancer Charity. Through even the smallest of commitments, you can support us to be there at every step.
Even the smallest commitments can make a difference to patients and families at Weston Park. Here are just a few of the ways you can be a brilliant part of our work.
Transport Service Driver
Our volunteer drivers play an essential role in ensuring that people living in Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham can access transport free of charge to and from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for cancer treatment.
We are on the lookout for wonderful people to join our fantastic team of drivers. As well as providing vital free, safe travel for people going through cancer treatment to and from appointments, our drivers play a crucial role in offering peer support when it’s needed most.
Actitivties might include:
- Driving our minibuses to enable patients from Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham to access their appointments in Sheffield
- Driving our Big Purple Bus to community venues across the region to ensure our services are accessible to everybody
- Welcoming visitors to our sites or Big Purple Bus locations
Events Volunteer
By volunteering at one of our fundraising events, you can make life better for people going through cancer today, and help us change outcomes for people diagnosed in the future by enabling vital research.
Activities might include:
- Selling raffle tickets and merchandise
- Bucket collection
- Cheering runners at 10K and marathon events
- Stewarding attendees at our flagship events like our annual Golf Day
- Marshalling at our annual Walk as One sponsored walk
- Helping on stalls at community events, as well as in supermarkets
Patient Support Volunteer
Our patient support volunteers are at the heart of the warm, welcoming environment we’re so proud of. Whether it’s offering a friendly face, sharing helpful information, or supporting our community, they help ensure everyone feels comfortable, informed and cared for.
Activities might include:
- Welcoming visitors to our sites or Big Purple Bus locations
- Providing relevant information to visitors about the charity’s activities
- Assisting staff at our support groups and coffee mornings in the community
- Helping to create a supportive and comfortable environment for our clients
