Volunteering Opportunities

Here are just a few ways you can be a part of our work.

Events & Fundraising Role

By volunteering at one of our fundraising events, you’ll be supporting the one in two people who will face cancer in their lifetime.

Activities might include:

  • Selling raffle tickets and merchandise
  • Bucket collections
  • Cheering runners at 10K and marathon events
  • Stewarding attendees at our flagship events like our annual Golf Day
  • Marshalling at our annual Walk as One sponsored walk
  • Helping on stalls at community events, as well as in supermarkets

Transport Service Driver

Our minibus drivers play an essential role in ensuring that people living in Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham can access transport free of charge to and from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for cancer treatment.

Activities might include:

  • Driving our minibuses to enable patients from Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham to access their appointments in Sheffield
  • Welcoming visitors to our Charity Hub and contributing to the warm and supportive environment there
  • Occasionally taking the minibuses for MOTs, repairs and services

Big Purple Bus Driver

Our Big Purple Bus drivers ensure that our bus is driven to our community sites and events across the region to ensure our services are accessible to everyone.

Activities might include:

  • Driving our Big Purple Bus to community sites and events across Sheffield, Rotherham and the wider region
  • Welcoming visitors on to the bus and contributing to the supportive environment there
  • Taking the bus for repairs, MOTs and services

Patient Support Role

Our patient support volunteers are at the heart of the warm, welcoming environment we’re so proud of. Whether it’s offering a friendly face, sharing helpful information, or supporting our community, they help ensure everyone feels comfortable, informed and cared for.

Activities might include:

  • Welcoming visitors to our Charity Hub and/or Big Purple Bus locations
  • Providing relevant information to visitors about the charity’s activities
  • Assisting staff at our support groups and coffee mornings in the community
  • Helping to create a supportive and comfortable environment for our clients
