Active Challenge summer raises over £54,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity
Fundraisers took on all sorts of challenges this summer – including skydives, sponsored cycles, and golf days.
Our active challenge fundraisers have enjoyed a bumper summer packed full of sponsored sporting events which raised a huge £54,859 for Weston Park Cancer Charity!
This incredible fundraising total of £54,859 could fund our Big Purple Bus project for three months, taking our healthcare professionals, welfare advisors and specialist courses/groups into underserved areas of our region. This crucial service is helping us ensure people across South Yorkshire have equal access to our cancer support.
From our thrill-seeking skydivers to our Three Peaks hikers, we’re so grateful to everyone who organised or took part in an event. The money you’ve raised will help people across our region to live well – with and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
Here are a few highlights from the 2025 summer season.
The Overford Peak District Cycle Challenge
On Friday 20th June, a group of cyclists set off from Forge Dam for a 40-mile ride around the Peak District. The event was sponsored by Overford and The Investment Room, and was organised in collaboration with British Cycling.
The Overford Peak District Cycle Challenge gave professionals the chance to network and socialise – all while raising money for Weston Park Cancer Charity. Cyclists enjoyed spectacular sights on a circular route through the Yorkshire and Derbyshire hills before heading back to Sheffield for a celebratory drink.
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
In July, our Yorkshire Three Peaks fundraisers hiked for 12 hours and reached the summit of three iconic peaks: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. Our walkers set off from Horton-in-Ribblesdale at 6am and covered a total distance of 24 miles, with an ascent of 5,200 feet! We’d like to congratulate everyone who took part and raised vital funds through this epic challenge.
Round Sheffield Run
This summer, thousands laced up their trainers and took part in the Round Sheffield Run. This multi-stage running experience starts in Endcliffe Park and covers some of Sheffield’s best trails and parklands.
We are proud to be the charity partner for the Round Sheffield Run, and grateful for the annual donation which we receive through registration fees. Every year, the Whitehouse Clinic Physio Team also raise much-appreciated funds for us at the event by providing post-race massages and advice.
The Big Jump
Nine fundraisers took on the challenge of a lifetime by braving a 15,000ft skydive for this year’s Big Jump challenge. Participants experienced a 60-second freefall and reached speeds of up to 120mph, before landing safely back on terra firma. By taking a giant leap, these individuals raised £7,624, which will make a huge difference to people in our region who are living with cancer.
Big Charity Battle
After a successful launch in 2024, the Big Charity Battle returned this summer for another nostalgia-filled day of fun. The event saw seven teams compete in an action-packed tournament which featured a gladiators duel, assault course, and human table football! After an intense competition, team ‘A&E Heroes’ were crowned 2025 champions. Money raised through this event will be divided between our charity and Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity.
Weston Park Cancer Charity Golf Day
This year’s Weston Park Cancer Charity Golf Day saw 44 teams tee off for a good cause – raising an incredible £30,500! We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, and to our amazing sponsors for making the day possible.
