Sheffield Lord Mayor unveils Weston Park Cancer Charity’s ‘Ribbons of Hope’ in-memory tribute
The ribbons in Weston Park honour loved ones who are no longer with us, while raising vital funds for our services.
Today, our Ribbons of Hope tribute was unveiled by The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Andrew Sangar.
The ‘Bridge of Remembrance’ is located in Weston Park and adorned with purple and white ribbons – each bearing the name of someone special who is no longer with us.
Every ribbon tells the story of a much-missed friend, family member, or colleague and we’ve been so touched by all of the tributes made.
We’re very grateful to our ribbon supporters for their generous donations, which will help people in our region to live well – with and beyond cancer.
If you’d like to take part, there’s still time to make a dedication through our website.
From 30th May to 30th June, visitors can find their loved one’s name on the bridge, before taking time to reflect in the park’s peaceful surroundings.
Refreshments are also available in the park, with the Motore café coffee van donating 50p for every drink sold and Ambulo café offering a hot drink and cake for £5, to our ribbon supporters.
Ribbons of Hope is generously sponsored by Forde Recruitment, with all of the ribbons kindly donated by Sarah’s Florist and The Flower Bowl – both based in Sheffield.
The Bridge of Remembrance was assembled by a fantastic group of volunteers from Wake Smith Solicitors.
Cllr Andrew Sangar, The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, said:
“What a privilege it’s been to unveil Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Ribbons of Hope today.
“The display is a beautiful way to remember loved ones who have passed, while also making a difference to families facing cancer right now.
“With one in two of us set to be diagnosed with cancer, events like this that bring the community together are more important than ever before.”
Melissa Erwin, Legacy & In Memory Fundraising Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity, said:
“It was very poignant to see so many people remembered through our first Ribbons of Hope event.
“We would like to thank all of our Ribbons of Hope supporters, for sharing dedications to their loved ones with us.
“We’re also very grateful to our event sponsors and our wonderful volunteers, Ann and Debbie, who wrote all of the names onto our ribbons with such care and respect.
“Each ribbon will help to fund groundbreaking research, treatment enhancements, and crucial support services.”
Supporters will have a second chance to see the Ribbons of Hope at our Walk As One fundraising event, which takes place in Endcliffe Park on Sunday 13th September.
